KIESELSTEIN honoured at the Steel Innovations Award

Sole applicant with a wire product

On 27 June 2012 the Steel Innovations Award (Stahlinnovationspreis) ceremony took place in Duesseldorf/Germany. The competition is held since 1989 every three years and is one of the most important awards of its kind in Germany. 658 projects applied for the award this year. No other competition achieves such high participation. To give consideration to the full variety of applications of the material steel, the Steen Innovations Award is divided into four categories.
 
The Chemnitz company KIESELSTEIN with its newly developed three-dimensional wire weave “strucwire” participated in the Steel Innovations Award 2012 in the category “Research and Development. It is made of wire spirals winded into each other and connected form-close. It is characterized not only by its low specific weight and the thermo-mechanic specifications but also by its various functional characteristics which can be adapted to the desired application. The 3D-structure made in Chemnitz opens new opportunities in light-weight design and can be used in the automotive industry and even for medical applications. With this forward-looking technology KIESELSTEIN reached the finals in the selection procedure of the Steel Innovations Award as the only applicant with a wire product and was honoured and presented as one of the 37 finalists during the award ceremony in Duesseldorf.
